Why We Chose To Call Montgomery Home

Amie and I have helped many people buy and sell in Montgomery over the years. We’ve never positioned ourselves the “local experts” of any neighbourhood because we help clients all over Calgary and the surrounding area. But after helping so many buyers and sellers here, we’ve come to know Montgomery pretty well.

We get asked about it all the time, so I thought I’d share a few of the reasons why people are drawn to the neighbourhood. After all, my wife and I call this place home, so who better to give you the inside scoop? 🙂

One of the things I like most about Montgomery is the variety of homes and the mix of people it attracts. Whether you’re a first-time buyer, growing family, downsizer, or investor, there’s something here for almost every stage of life and budget. Apartments typically range from $300,000–$400,000, townhomes from $500,000–$700,000, duplexes from $450,000–$1.2 million, detached homes from $500,000–$1.8 million, and there is even a riverfront property currently listed for $6,000,000!

Location is a big reason people choose Montgomery. You can be just steps away from the Bow River while not having to worry as most of the homes sit elevated, outside the flood zones. Broken up into upper and lower Montgomery, many of the homes are built on the hill offering amazing west facing views – who doesn’t love a Calgary sunset?!

Montgomery is close to downtown, has quick access west to the mountains, and is surrounded by amenities that make day-to-day life convenient.

Some nearby highlights include:

  • Foothills Hospital
  • Alberta Childrens Hospital
  • Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre
  • University of Calgary
  • University District for restaurants, shopping, and entertainment
  • Market Mall
  • The Bow River pathway system
  • Shouldice Park
  • Bowmont Park

For a long time, NOtaBLE was the restaurant most people associated with Montgomery. Today, you’ll also find great spots like Fringe Coffee, Shawarma Palace, Lily Vietnamese Subs and the newly opened Palios for a beer or cocktail.

Fun Fact:

Detached home price growth since January 2017:

  • Montgomery: 82%
  • Bowness: 80%
  • Parkdale: 49%
  • City of Calgary: 48%

So, some may say that Montgomery is ‘up-and-coming’ but the stats show that it has already arrived! Part of the reason the jump has been so much larger in Montgomery than the city overall is that the mix of homes has changed from primarily original homes to a strong contingent of new construction, which skews the price points upward. But it is still an incredibly strong performance over the past decade.

Like much of Calgary, Montgomery has seen strong appreciation over the past several years. During the pandemic, many buyers looked toward the suburbs, but demand for well-located inner-city communities has returned in a big way.

For families, there are several daycare options nearby, along with schools such as Terrace Road School (K–6) and the newer Foundations for the Future Charter Academy – North High School Campus.

Thinking About Buying or Selling?

Having both lived in Montgomery and helped numerous clients buy and sell here, we’ve developed a strong understanding of what makes the neighbourhood unique.

Whether you’re curious about current home values, wondering what buyers are looking for, or thinking about making a move, we’d be happy to share what we’re seeing in today’s market.

Sometimes the best insight doesn’t come from statistics – it comes from living the lifestyle every day.

As a former college athlete, teamwork, trust, and coaching others toward a common goal shaped who I am, and those same principles guide my career in real estate today. I’ve built lifelong friendships through sport, and creating those kinds of long-term relationships is my main goal with every client.

I’ve been an Albertan since 2014, but I’m proud to have been born and raised in Saskatchewan. Since being here, food has been one of my favourite ways to explore the city, and Calgary does not disappoint. My go-to meal is the Extra Fancy pizza from Noble Pie. I’ll never say no to a quick lunch at Peppino’s and love a good date night dinner at NOtaBLE Steakhouse.

When not in my home office in Montgomery or out with clients, you’ll usually find me hiking, biking, or skiing in the mountains with my wife. I also enjoy golfing and playing organized basketball and hockey (even when that means 11 p.m. ice times).

What I enjoy most about being a realtor is utilizing my market knowledge and experience to educate and calmly guide clients through one of the most significant decisions of their lives, while keeping the process enjoyable and stress-free. This approach has led to many lifelong relationships and repeat clients, which I’m incredibly grateful for.
